Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Cody Kessler and Brandon Weeden are not sure whether they’ll be on their team this season, but Kessler said Tuesday that he doesn’t know if he’ll play.
Kessler was asked about a report that the Browns are interested in trading for former New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith.
“I’ve got no idea,” Kessler said.
“I’m not sure, but I’m not going to say.
We’ll see what happens.
It’s all on us.
We’ve got to get the right guy.”
The Browns were one of the teams that were rumored to be interested in signing Smith this offseason.
If they did, it would mark the second consecutive year they didn’t sign a quarterback.
They traded up in the first round to select Smith in the 2014 NFL Draft with the No. 1 pick.
He was expected to be a starter and made it to the Pro Bowl last season before tearing his ACL against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kessler, who is 5-7 as a starter, threw three interceptions in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Smith completed 23 of 44 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown, but Cleveland was outscored 26-3 in the second half.
